Will a live Switchblade open on a layered target?

The target density as well as fps will affect whether the head will open on a target. Opening on an animal is 100 times different. We have tested our heads on foam block style targets (Field Logic, and Morrell) as well as 2" thick 18" x 18" McKenzie targets with 9lbs, 6 lbs. and 4 lbs. density. On the 6 lbs McKenzie target, the Switchblade will open every time. At faster fps on the softer targets, the head will open periodically. That is surely not to say that the head will not open on game. In fact we guarantee opening on game. You have to understand that an animals hide is extremely tough. So much that in our testing, you could not even push a 10 penny nail threw the hide of a whitetail, it was that tough. On the flipside, look at how easy it is to push that same nail through a layered or foam target. Targets and animals are completely different with respect to how a broadhead opens up.

I can hear a noise when the Switchblade is in flight, will a deer jump the string?

The Switchblade, like other broadheads, does have a different sound to it when traveling through the air. We have tested the flight noise with a decibel tester and found the bow to be louder than the arrows flight path. We designed a box (3' x 3') that we shot the Switchblade thru, 20 yards down range from the bow. The decibel tester was located inside the box. Our first test was to find the baseline decibel reading of the bow with a standard field tip installed in the shaft. We recorded that info and then shot the Switchblade. The bow was louder than the Switchblade every time. Our test bows consisted of two top of the line manufacturers which are deemed to be the most quiet bows on the market.
